Impressions from a historic landskappleik

The landskappleik, the national folk music competition, was this year held in Setesdal for the first time, at Hovden 24–28 June, with almost five thousand listeners and participants. For the slåttetromme, the traditional Norwegian folk drum, it was truly historic: "trommer og andre eldre slagverksinstrument" ("drums and other older percussion instruments") was for the very first time a separate subcategory — with nine drummers, two in the junior class and seven in the senior class.

For the first time, some competitors entered with drum in the junior class — and first place was shared between Kristoffer Maximus Åsgård and Elliot Drøbak Eldevik.

Birger Mistereggen won the senior class and received the highest score of all in "eldre folkeinstrument" ("older folk instruments"). On Friday evening, Åsmund Soldal held "tamburtid" ("drummer's hour") at the hotel — a mini tambur evening with slåtter, traditional tunes, and anecdotes — before he later played slåttetromme for dancing on the main stage, with bass drums on his feet to mark the beat.
